My name is Atticus Norman and I’m a Quad City local who has been passionate about art for as long as I can remember. I was a part of the Quad City Arts Metro Youth Apprenticeship program for four years, and graduated from Black Hawk College with an Associate in Fine Arts degree. I’ve also had work exhibited in several art shows, including at the Figge Art Museum and at the Quad City Arts gallery. Art has always been a source of healing and comfort for me, and now that I’m instructing my own classes, I try to help it have that same effect on others.

When I’m not doing art, I’m probably spending time with my family, enjoying nature, traveling and/or attending a concert, or taking time to ground myself and my energy. I have been attuned in reiki since I was ten years old, and my spirituality is a huge part of who I am today. A lot of my personal art involves transmuting energy, and I try to infuse all of my work with reiki, hoping that the overall feeling that the pieces emit is a healing energy. I still have much to learn both within my art and within my spirituality, and I thank you for being a part of my journey.

Special shout out to my family (especially my parents and sisters) and my lovely partner Isabella for always being my number one supporters.

About the artist

I started my intuitive paint classes through a grant from Quad City Arts in May of 2024, with the main goal being to promote the idea that art is all subjective and is for everybody. I often hear people say “All I can draw is stick figures,” or, “I’m not an artist.” …but I think more often than not, it’s just purely self-imposed limitations and an expectation of what art “should” be that causes the self doubt.

In this class, art can be whatever you want it to be! It’s a free-flowing class aimed to focus on self-expression and community building, rather than a traditional follow along paint class where it can be easy to compare yourself to others. Whether you consider yourself a beginner or a pro, or simply just want to come and relax to the movement of your paintbrush, all are welcome here. The only rule is to not judge yourself or those around you! Come and let your creativity guide you.

Intuitive painting is on the last Wednesday of every month at 5:30pm at the Figge Art Museum. Find sign ups on the link below.
